Sumenep – A number of students from the Merdeka Student Exchange Program (PMM4) at Universitas Trunojoyo Madura (UTM) organized an event focused on Empowering Coastal Communities and Promoting Sustainable Environmental Conservation on Gili Genting Island in Sumenep.
The social action undertaken by the PMM4 UTM students in Sumenep Regency took place over two days, specifically from June 14 to June 15, 2024, on Gili Genting Island in Sumenep Regency, Madura, East Java.
In this event, a total of 113 students from 22 provinces and 44 universities, spanning from Sabang to Merauke, participated in the Merdeka Student Exchange Program (PMM) 4 UTM, specifically in the Nusantara Social Contribution module.
Siti Fadjryana Fitroh, S. PSi., M.A, in her capacity as the PIC for PMM4, mentioned that the students were accompanied by the Nusantara module lecturers who had interacted with them throughout the semester in PMM4.
"The social contribution activity is selected to be held on Gili Genting Island with the aim of providing a positive impact through the involvement of PMM students in the Madurese community via empowerment, as well as promoting tourism destinations," she stated.
Furthermore, Siti Fadjryana explained with the hope that the Nusantara students will promote it through social media, thereby positively impacting the revitalization of one of Madura's destinations.
"With the theme 'Empowering Coastal Communities and Sustainable Environmental Preservation: Past, Present, and Future at Gili Genting," she stated.
Please be informed that during the time spent on Gili Genting Island, the PMM 4 UTM Nusantara module on social contributions conducted the following activities:
- Group 1 activities were supervised by Parisca Indra Perdana, including a cultural arts parade and the release of hatchlings, which were held at the shore of Gili Genting.
- The activities of Group 2, guided by Luluk Hanifah, on anti-bullying outreach were conducted at SMPN 1 Gili Genting.
- The activities of Group 3, guided by Citra Lutfia, regarding the socialization of the clean and healthy living movement, were held at the village hall.
- The activities of Group 4, guided by Farid Ardyansyah, are part of the Generasi Peduli Literasi (Literacy Care Generation) initiative. These activities were held at the Bringsang Reading Park, in collaboration with the students of SDN Bringsang 1 Gili Genting.
– Group 5 activities were supervised by AB Candra, involving coastal conservation (planting of mangrove seedlings) and the release of hatchlings.
Several activities were held at the Bringsan Park, attended by the Head of the Gili Genting Subdistrict, the Head of the Village-Owned Enterprises, as well as the Military Command Unit Officer, and also the community.
